Race Design

Shattered Realms Races

While working on The Shattered Earth tabletop RPG system I was put in charge of designing races for the world. These are a few examples of races I have designed to fit with the percentile system that the RPG is based upon. Most stats are based out of 100 with the exception of the core stats. In this system there exist 8 stats Strength (STR), Dexterity (DEX), Endurance (END), Wisdom (WIS), Presence (PRS), Agility (AGL) Intelligence (INT),  and Perception (PER). In addition to these stats every race is attuned certain types of magic so I also had to consider that when designing races. For more information, there exists an interview with the creator here

Rift Rave Races

When designing the characters for Rift Rave, I had to think of a diverse cast of character races to craft our quirky cast of characters which not only populates the kind of universe these characters live in and how each of them is connected to Lzote in some way. Currently, we have 3 Earth races and 3 extraterrestrial races not counting humans and the Forces. While the races have no purpose in terms of actual gameplay they are helpful in understanding each of the different playable characters

Thorgs

Thorgs are a race of dimwitted and friendly Ogre like creatures that come from a large rocky planet within an irregular galaxy, orbiting an orange star, lovingly dubbed ThorgHome. Thorg are large bulky creatures who stand relatively low to the ground, and are covered in a thick stone-like hide that is very difficult to damage. They aren’t very bright, struggling with the use of the common language, and have no concept of science. They are very brutish, having a primitive language, consisting primarily of an assortment of grunts and the word Thorg yet despite all this they have an extensive record of their history all written in the ancient language of the Forces, the omnipresent deities that govern the universe and a plethora of incredibly advanced technology even by human standards. This is because through some miracle of divine intervention, they have been blessed with a photographic memory. This gift allowed them to evolve entirely through the process of trial and error.  The Thorg Elders record this knowledge and bestow it upon through their education system which consists of large sermons addressing the collective Thorgs as a whole. Some nuggets of wisdom include but are not limited too: Fire hurts when you touch it, The Babook is scary and capable of harming Thorg, do not anger it, War is bad, many Thorg die, be friendly to all, never let smarter NotThorgs make you work for nothing, and do not stare at the big ball of Orange Light, it hurts. They worship their god Thorg Prime and believe in no other deities. None of them have the slightest idea of what he or she may look like, though, so they just assume they’ll look like a Thorg but more godlike. Turns out, these creatures were actually created by Lzote himself after partaking in a bet with Arga, the goddess of creation. Lzote bet that a blatantly stupid creature can sustain itself for millennia without any help from the gods aside from their initial creation, and by a sheer miracle (or just plum good luck) they have become one of the longest lasting and most advanced civilizations in the universe.
